CHRIS MARKER INT- EXT
Homage to the freest of documentarists on the centenary of his birth
Chris Marker has always been a figure of multiplicity. Precursor of the essay film, and one of the first to believe in the documentary as artistic form to liberate it from the weight of authority. Marker, a synonym of freedom, an endless creator who from an elusive identity challenges artistic forms and social structures. Marker’s cinematographic playfulness has echoes today with filmmakers and film schools all over the world, echoes that bounce back in the interventions in documentary image, and in the archival work and impulse that seems to be experiencing renewed attention in the political-experimental documentary.
From the collective curatorship of the 23 MIDBO, we wanted to highlight in this installation, created by the artists of 9 Voltios, experimentation, constant curiosity and the radical gaze with which this filmmaker made the documentary form unstable territory.
Chris Marker INT/EXT is an invitation to seek refuge in the memory and private worlds of Marker, focused on the final period of his career. In this work we also revisit the Latin American gaze with which, from his producer ISKRA, he attempted to capture the red current that traversed the world and which forms part of the images that today constitute part of the archive of a convulsive and interminable history.
The installation of this work is supported by the French Embassy in Colombia and the artists of Nueve Voltios.
