Dreams of Chonta

Diego Obregon, the musician, the dreamer, the fighter. He teaches us that artists keep a secret between the exhausting working days as an undocumented citizen in New York and the dreaming and creativity nights in his small musical studio. Despite setbacks, opportunities that come and go, of scarcity and divergences, he keeps his culture and ancestors’ secret. From the deep noises that are born in the pacific mangroves of Colombia, from the resounding scent and color of his region wood. Diego, the one that achieved acknowledgments and American documentation, but who also returns to his homeland looking for relief. It would be too simplistic to reduce his life to constructing the American dream; it is a movie about the dreams and searches. Diego died before this documentary was finished. A posthumous tributo to a musician that wherever he was used to taking with him the marimba chonta, the cunuco, and the guasá in his hearth.
