What is silence? The director-narrator of this short film, who is also a film sound engineer, inquires into the wandering nature of silence and sound and their mutual dependence. Through a painting by the Dutch painter Nicolas Maes, she also wonders about the look, the act of spying, and the stealthiness. Do we hear with our eyes and see with our ears? Does sound come to us, or do we go to it? Why is the death of others so noisy? Will our own death be the most profound silence? To the intimacy of the house, sounds of explosions reach, but also shadows of trees. Maybe the end of the world will not be so thunderous. It could be as gentle and natural as the withering of flowers or the lightness of a cat.
