For the English people, the French port town of Calais is either the front door to Europe or a place where to buy cheap alcohol. This is the last barrier in the desperate search for a new life in England for hundreds of immigrants. This intimate movie interlaces the stories of the refugees, the immigrants and the English expatriates to build a new image of life in a passing city where the inhabitants dream of a better place. After his film LIFT, Marc Isaacs continues his search for places where a complete range of humanity can be found.
